Steven CookMay 24, 2015

The stage is set for the 2015 SEC baseball tournament championship, with Vanderbilt and Florida being the only teams left standing amid a week of chaos in Hoover, Alabama.

While the Commodores are set to defend their national championship in the coming weeks, Sunday brings the opportunity to claim the school's first conference tournament title since 2007 and just the third in team history.

The Gators are riding high after a Saturday upset of top-seeded LSU, and they'll be looking to add to the program's six titles in Hoover.

While the Florida Gators undoubtedly earned their way to Sunday's title game, they also have the tournament's format to thank. Florida had one loss in Hoover while LSU entered Saturday's semifinal unbeaten, but one loss eliminated the Tigers and sent the Gators forward to Sunday's final.

However, that upset didn't prevent the championship from being decided by two of the nation's top teams.

Second-seeded Vanderbilt also took an early loss in the tournament to Texas A&M, but it rebounded from the defeat in gripping fashion. The Commodores throttled Alabama 16-1 on Friday before avenging their loss to the Aggies with a 12-3 rubber-match semifinal.

Spectacular pitching headlined by ace Carson Fulmer has been Vandy's biggest strength this season, but Hoover has seen a reversal of fortune. Fulmer was tattooed for three home runs in the Commodores' only defeat, while their bats have been the difference.

Leading the way at the plate and in the field is Dansby Swanson, a future MLB star who showcased his complete arsenal on Saturday against Texas A&M:

Vandy's bats are undoubtedly sizzling, but those about to stand on the mound in front of them are having quite a recent run themselves.

Ever since Florida dropped its first game of the tourney, its pitching has been dominant. The Gators allowed just three runs in three games, shutting out Arkansas and holding the vaunted LSU offense to just one second-inning run.

While fatigue would be settling in for many pitching staffs at this point in a tournament, that's not the case with Florida, as head coach Kevin O'Sullivan told The Tennessean's Adam Sparks:

If the Gators are actually able to depend upon some fresh pitchers who haven't seen many innings, it will bode well for their chances.

However, O'Sullivan also has to be careful with which guys he trusts in that situation, going up against one of the nation's most feared lineups that is red-hot as of late.

Whether it's Vandy's average of nearly two runs per inning over the last two games or Florida's average of just one run allowed per game, one of the two streaks will inevitably end throughout a virtually unpredictable championship match.
