
UFC 187 Johnson vs. Cormier: Round-by-Round Recap and Analysis
Daniel Cormier is your new UFC light heavyweight champion.
Cormier got dropped in the first round by Johnson, but quickly recovered to utilize his superior grappling. Johnson faded quickly. Very quickly.
Cormier continued to take his time to wear Johnson down. By the third round Johnson was toast. Cormier got his back, sunk in the rear-naked choke and finished the fight to win gold. He adds more gold to the American Kickboxing Academy.

They touch gloves.
Johnson opens with a leg kick, but he took a poke to the eye. He says he is fine. Big overhand right drops Cormier! Cormier has his hands on Johnson as Rumble looked for the finish. Cormier taking his time. Takedown, but Rumble is working his way up.
Cormier sticking to Johnson. Cormier making his carry all his weight. He is making Johnson work. Rumble is free. Big strikes by Johnson. Cormier ducks under a punch, but fails on the takedown attempt.
Cormier closes the distance, and Johnson is against the fence. Under a minute to go.
The crowd begins to boo, but this is what Cormier wants to do. He needs to slow Johnson down. DC backs away, and they throw wildly for a moment before the bell.

Low leg kick from Johnson. They exchange kicks. Johnson connecting more and more. Cormier catches a kick, moves him to the fence and takes him down.
Cormier in half-guard. He narrowly missed mount. Rumble trying to control his posture, but Cormier working on bettering his position. Short, hard elbow from Cormier. Cormier attacking with a kimura. He lets it go.
Now he goes for it again, but he can't get the tap. Half the round to go.
Cormier taking his time. Johnson doing very little from bottom. He looks tired. Cormier now trying to drop some ground and pound. Cormier covers the mouth of Johnson. Cormier wearing on Johnson. Cormier controlling him. Johnson doing very little to get up. Elbows from Cormier.
Rumble is wilting.

Johnson comes out firing. He slips on a punch, and Cormier is defending a takedown as Johnson latches onto him. He does take Cormier down briefly. Cormier reverses the position once he gets back up.
Cormier working on a takedown, and he eats some right hands in the process. Cormier goes back to pressing him against the fence. Cormier is on Johnson's back. Johnson spins around and tries to work another takedown. Cormier back on his back.
