Roberto Mancini Talks Toure's Potential Inter Milan Exit

Friday, June 12

Football Italia reported Mancini doesn't believe Toure staying with Manchester City is a done deal just yet:

"

He was the one who told me he wanted to look for new destinations. I spent six months explaining to him what he would find at Inter, then he spoke with his club and he fell out of the radar. But I haven't given up on this, I'm waiting to hear his own side of the story and in the meantime I remain hopeful. Or else why would he have spent six months telling me that he wanted to come to Milan?

"

On June 1, Toure said, per James Robson of the Manchester Evening News"I will definitely stay. The fans don't have to be worried," "My target this year is to try to do everything possible to make this team improve well and I am sure with my experience, maybe I hope, with the players coming in a couple of weeks, a couple of months, definitely it is going to be a strong City next year."

On May 27, manager Manuel Pellegrini also alluded to a prolonged spell for Toure at City, quoted by the club's official Twitter feed saying: "I always say Yaya is happy here. Yaya will stay here because I know the way he thinks."

Inter Milan had hoped to lure Toure to Italy, confirmed by vice-president Javier Zanetti on May 20. Zanetti told La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t ITV News): "We are at the stage where we hope we can complete it. Yaya would give us that leap in quality."

Toure has now disappointed Zanetti and Inter, who had hoped to see him playing for them in Serie A next season.

The Ivorian hasn't replicated his terrific form of 2013/14 in recent times. The 32-year-old scored 10 goals and provided one assist in his Premier League appearances this season, per WhoScored.com. Last term, he racked up 20 strikes and nine assists in 35 displays, leading Pellegrini's side to the title.

Toure's best form occurs when he is allowed to drive forward from deep, pummelling his way beyond defenders and into the opposition's box, as displayed in the 4-2 win over Swansea City toward the end of the season.

City will hope to return him to his very best ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.
