England look set to take a decent squad to the Euro under-21 championships this summer, but if form and availability had been different, the team had the makings of being very strong indeed.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Luke Shaw and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all sit out the tournament, perhaps seen as full internationals now with commitments at some of England's major clubs.

Others, like Phil Jones and Jack Wilshere, may surprise casual observers as they are still eligible to represent the team at the age of 23.

The rules of the tournament state that any player born after January 1, 1992 can be called up.
