Better Times To Come In KC!

Jacob McCallisterSep 2, 2009

Being a lifelong Kansas City fan for me has felt like a roller coaster ride, but as of late that big fast roller coaster has turned into the Caterpillar ride at your local not so exciting fair, where the BO smellingguy in a stained wife beater stares and smiles with his picket fence teeth(a lil harsh I know, but true). Not a whole lot to get a excited about, but too intriguing to turn away. This season the Chiefs have  a new look. Long time GM Carl Peterson is out the door, and New England bred Scott Pioli is in. Pioli brings with him a winning no nonsense attitude that KC has needed for awhile. Peterson had his run, and in all honesty should of had himself a Superbowl ring with Montana in town, but that's sports you never know how things will shake out. To Peterson's credit bringing Vermiel to town was a great move, it was a blast watching that higher powered offense, but a nightmare watching that D, but as the old saying goes take the good with that bad. After Vermiel came Edwards, a great guy I'd lover to have over for beer and poker on guys night but no the guy I want controlling the fate of my team. With that said I will now say Herm needs VH1 to offer him a reality TV show just like TO, because the guy is entertaining, I loved him on Hard Knocks he made it the best season to date. Now Herm is getting laughs on a Coors Light commercial, and holding down a sportscaster's roll. On to Pioli's first big move hiring the man responsible for Arizona yes Arizona if you just awoke form a coma, having a high octane offense that carried them to the Superbowl Mr. Haley. So new Gm check, new Coach check, QB? Well KC still had some gun slingers in the Saloon, but didn't have their sharpshooter until Pioli called in a favor to his old friends the NE Patriots, and got a Cassel for a peasent's wage(2nd round pick) with an aging knight lb Vrabel thrown in just for kicks. The question to be answered now is, was Cassel just a product of good surroundings? Only time will tell, but I have a feeling he was always a solid QB who finally got his shot, I mean hell he went to USC they don't exactly recruit scrubs. So now Cassel has a guy in Bowe who is ready to be a superstar, and the best TE ever Tony Gonzalez to use as targets and wait KC gives him away for a 2nd round pick...hmmmm sounds familiar, Im still hoping someone pinches me and I wake up from the nightmare of losing Gonzo.  Well back to the basics Cassel has Bowe, and well fill in the blanks with the name of an veteran WR looking to make his last stand ni KC they have plenty of them. Everyone in KC hopes this Cassel is well built, the air was sucked out of the city last Saturday when the QB of the future limped off the field, but as of now it looks to be minor. I say let him stay out so Baltimore doesn't kill him next Sunday. With the way the line is playing Trinity High School could rack up 5 sacks or better on him. When healthy he will prove to be legit, and mark my words if the line can pull its head out of you know where LJ will be reborn. Just yesterday Hailey gave Offensive Coordinator Gailey the boot, and Im glad he did. I mean have you seen how terrible this supposed to be high octane offense looked. With Hailey calling the shots KC will be better off, sorry Mr. Gailey. The defense is stocked full of young up and coming stars like Derrick Johnson, and Brandon Flowers. Our LSU boys Jackson and Dorsey should be roomates again so they can play like they did in college, and KC will be just fine. The last few years have been tough on KC fans but the future is bright, give it a season or two before you spit at the new regime in KC, just as NE was built into a winner Pioli will do the same in KC, not saying KC will be the new powerhouse of football just saying opposing teams will fear the madness that is Arrowhead Stadium once again. KC football will be more then tailgating and world famous BBQ it will be about passion, and chasing titles. For a City who has to watch their baseball team bottom feed year after year its nice to have a glimmer of hope that football fun may be on the horizon. Don't give up hope KC fans, patience is key and patience will pay off, so keep your hands inside the ride at all times, and enjoy this new improved roller coaster we call the Pioli era in KC.
