NASCAR Truck Series at Charlotte 2015 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

Scott PolacekMay 15, 2015

Kasey Kahne and Erik Jones raced 200 miles Friday during the NC Education Lottery 200 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. They finished a mere .005 seconds apart.

That is literally the blink of an eye.

Fox Sports NASCAR and John Morris of Fox Sports captured the dramatic photo finish:

NASCAR Trucks reacted to the race:

The photo finish was set up by a green-white-checker finish after a caution, and Kahne's bumper just crossed the line before Jones' after Jones led most of the way.

Here is a look at the top finishers, per NASCAR.com:

1Kasey Kahne13921
2Erik Jones13988
3Matt Crafton13924
4Tyler Reddick1391
5Brad Keselowski1394
6John Wes Townley1390
7Timothy Peters1390
8Matt Tifft1390
9Justin Boston1390
10Spencer Gallagher1390

Such a heart-pounding victory called for a subsequent celebration, and NASCAR Trucks and Jay W. Pennell of Fox Sports passed along Kahne's reaction:

Kahne's photo-finish victory is impressive in a vacuum, but it is even more so when you consider the fact that he has only made six career starts in a truck and counts five victories in that span. He finished in second place the one race he didn't win.

Jeff Gluck of USA Today noted that Friday was Kahne's first Truck start since 2012, despite the incredible record.

As for Jones, there is certainly a bright future ahead for the 18-year-old, but Friday was all about the NASCAR veteran Kahne's sheer determination in the finishing kick.

NASCAR Trucks pointed out just how close the race was and noted that it was a favorable day for Chevrolet:

While 35-year-old Kahne ultimately won the race and bragging rights, Jones actually led the 139-lap race for 88 laps. He was the best driver on the track for the majority of the evening, which likely makes Friday's loss even harder to swallow for the youngster.

Jones made his move with only a few laps to go and appeared primed to win the race before Kahne made his final push after the caution. NASCAR Trucks described the impressive maneuvers from Jones, and NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. weighed in, as well:

Pennell pointed out that plenty in the stands were behind the teenager as he made his move toward the finish line with a few laps remaining:

The difficult thing for Jones is that he was actually leading by a fairly comfortable margin until a caution came out with two laps remaining, which led to that green-white-checkered finish. Kahne ultimately caught him on the restart and powered to the finish line.

Jones commented on the disappointing finish, per Fox Sports"I can't believe that NASCAR can't let us just finish the race. Second week in a row the fastest truck didn't win the race. It just sucks. I just can't believe we lost. I don't know what to say. It really, really hurts."

While Friday's loss was certainly heartbreaking for the youngster, it also was encouraging moving forward.

He battled with Kahne, who rarely races in Trucks but also only has one career loss, and was the faster competitor until the disappointing caution. He needs to improve the restart since that is ultimately where Kahne caught him, but there is plenty to take away from Friday's performance.

There will be a number of Truck races Kahne does not compete in moving forward. If Jones races like he did in Charlotte, he will likely win those.
