Moises Henriques Nearly Wins It For Sunrisers
All things considered, Sunrisers Hyderabad really couldn't have asked for much more from Moises Henriques, who continues to put in great performances for his side.
The Portuguese-born Australian led the team in runs scored with 57 from just 22 deliveries, teaming up with David Warner to cruise to a total of 135. And when Royal Challengers Bangalore started their innings on fire, he took back-to-back wickets of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, two batsmen you'll consistently find in the top-ranked players in this article.
Henriques bowled just the single over, finishing with three runs conceded and two wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was tasked with bowling the final over, and he proceeded to give up three consecutive boundaries to Virat Kohli.
Had Warner not stepped on the boundary rope, Sunrisers might as well have won this match, and the team would have been in excellent position heading into the final matchday of the group stage. The veteran opener knows exactly how costly that mistake could turn out to be:
"Kids if you watched tonight's game make sure you check for the boundary rope. Costly mistake.1 more game to go we can fight back @SunRisers
— David Warner (@davidwarner31) May 15, 2015"
It's a shame Henriques' fantastic performance went to waste, and Sunrisers must hope he can replicate it against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle Fire Bangalore to 2nd Place
Bangalore had just six overs to chase down a total of 81 after Friday's match saw multiple stoppages due to the rain. If there were ever a duo fans would like to open the innings for such a task, it would be Kohli and Gayle.
The West Indies star didn't last very long, but in the 10 balls Gayle faced, he managed to score 35 runs. Kohli's start was a little slower, but he heated up at just the right time and finished with 44 from 19 not out.
Of those 44 runs, 14 came on the final three deliveries of the match, with the Men in Blue's star shelling Kumar to put Bangalore near the top of the IPL standings. Royal Challengers will meet already eliminated Delhi Daredevils in their final match, and a win there will put the squad in the play-offs.
