How Notre Dame Will Defeat Nevada
If I were the head coach at Notre Dame(fortunately for all involved I am not) I would start the game off with a 5 receiver spread right out of the gate. This would put pressure on their defense right away as it seems to be their weakest part of their team. From the reports I have been able to amass, it is not unreasonable to assume a big play for us. I think we should keep the Nevada team on their heels. I do not see how their backfield could effectively cover all receivers.
The following plays are much more difficult to predict. It all depends on what happens with the first play. I shall arrange my answers from worse to best.
1) Interception- No new play needed just get the ball back.
2) Sack- I would go to a 4 receiver set with either a draw or a out let pass patern.
3) Incompletion- run the same formation again.
4) Minimal gain- I would go with a either a screen play or a running play.
5) Big gain- I would keep the pressure on-but with a 4 reciever pattern- no huddle.
6) Touch Down!!!!
My guesses are based upon what I see are Notre Dame's best offensive strengths and the weakest part of Nevada. We do not need to lock ourselves into establishing the run for all of the season.
On defense, we need to make sure the peremiters are protected. This dual threat quarter back has to be contained and pressured all game. We have been told that Notre Dame now has the speed to bring the pressure and protect against the big play. Now we have to see if have been told the truth. If we have, then we should generate from both sacks and turnovers to turn this into a route.
