How Much More Can Samari Rolle Take?

Seems like its turning out this way every year for Samari Rolle. This year, he will miss the first six games of the season with a neck injury requiring surgery.

Prior to that, it was a bout with a disease diagnosed as epilepsy, several weeks after it caused him to miss games with what this then described by the Ravens as “an undisclosed illness.”

He’s a great guy in the community, and when healthy, can step in as a solid corner in limited action. But how much more can this man take in pursuit of a Super Bowl with the Ravens? And just as important, how much more can the Ravens afford to wait on Rolle, who just signed a four-year, $10 million deal in the offseason?

You want the best for both sides of this equation, particularly Rolle, who in the latter stages of his career, has as much to offer off the field as he does on it. But there is a reality check involved with this story, a story that involves a 53-man roster being whittled down with several decent corners read to step in.

Sad when reality checks often leave a negative balance.
