Regrettable Fan-on-Field Moments
There are a shocking number of regrettable moments involving sports fans on the field of play. Today, let's focus on the worst in recent memory.
Now, who knows if the Old Dominion streaker regrets his actions? He certainly should. Disrupting the game, assaulting a player, scaling a catch fence—these are all actions unworthy of praise.
The following fans, at minimum, looked foolish. At worst, they were viciously tackled or even prosecuted. Whose #streakfails were worst? Let's find out.
This, people, is why we can't have nice things.
Honorable Mention: Somersault Guy
1 of 14Warning: Video contains NSFW language.
This one gets an honorable mention because it's really more hilarious than regrettable. During a recent baseball game in St. Louis, one fan somehow sprinted all the way through the outfield before diving on home plate to successfully complete a somersault.
Honorable Mention: Rogue Diver
2 of 14Streaking at a diving competition—that's not something you see every day. However, this incident is an honorable mention because it, too, seems more awesome than regrettable. The streaker at the Diving World Series even takes a bow at the end. Watch and enjoy.
Selfie Streaker
3 of 14Some fans will do anything for a selfie, including streaking across a soccer field in their skivvies. This guy's mission went off almost without a hitch until he tripped and fell toward the end. Sad.
Pierogi Race Guy
4 of 14During a 2014 game at Pittsburgh's PNC Park, one fan made it onto the field and joined the Great Pierogi Race that happens between innings. Shirtless and unafraid, the man almost made it over the right field wall to safety, but alas, it was not to be.
Two Dudes in Detroit
5 of 14
Who in their right mind would run onto an NFL field of play with, you know, actual players on the field?
You may recall in November, the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets played a football game in Detroit due to a whole mess of snow. During the relocated game, not one, but two fans sprinted across the field before security stopped them. One even tried to approach the players. He lived, surprisingly.
World Cup Final Guy
6 of 14A streaker invaded the pitch at the World Cup final and actually tried to kiss Benedikt Howedes of Germany. He eventually suffered a pretty rough takedown at the hands of security. Luckily, LeBron James was there to capture the moment in all its disgraceful glory.
Wrigley Rain Delay
7 of 14This fan decided to run onto Wrigley Field during a rain delay in 2014. He wasn't hurting anyone. In fact, the most regrettable thing here is this brave soul didn't get a chance to do a Slip'N Slide on the tarp.
Naked Spiker
8 of 14Warning: This video contains muffled nudity.
At a 2014 Old Dominion football game, not only did one man streak onto the field in the buff, but he Gronked a football while he was at it.
It was sort of great until he was eventually tackled and later charged with indecent exposure.
NASCAR Fence Climber
9 of 14So you're not supposed to climb the catch fence at NASCAR races—no, not even to take a selfie. The 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Richmond had to move to yellow while one fan learned this lesson.
Sore Loser
10 of 14Warning: This video contains profane gestures.
No one likes a sore loser. One fan didn't take too kindly to his Hamburg team losing to Bayern Munich recently, 3-1. Bayern's Franck Ribery scored near the end of the game, and the fan took it out on him personally—on the field.
Rugby Brawler
11 of 14Warning: Video contains poorly covered nudity.
During a 2014 rugby match between Newcastle and Northumbria University, this guy streaked fully nude across the pitch. Not only that, but he tackled one of the players, inciting an all-out brawl.
Who knows if this person regretted his actions personally, but regardless, his reckless stunt was completely out of line and disrespectful to the game.
Kick to the Face
12 of 14Who knows what expectations exist in the minds of fans who charge fields? Just a guess, but they probably don't include taking a ninja kick to the face.
After a match between Club Deportivo Marathon and Real Espana, unhappy Marathon fans invaded the pitch in what turned out to be a very regrettable display of violence overall. A Real Espana player kicked one unlucky fan in the face, according to Ian McCourt of the Guardian.
Criminal Trespassing
13 of 14An Ohio State football coach leveled Anthony Wunder, and Wunder almost lost his scholarship. All of this was because of one ill-advised fan-on-field incident (Wunder being the fan in question, of course). Sure, he became a bit of an Internet sensation, but almost losing a scholarship and pleading guilty to a misdemeanor? Not worth it.
Rugby Streaker Leveled
14 of 14
Of all the playing surfaces to invade, a Rugby pitch seems like the farthest thing from a safe option. Rugby players don't seem as hesitant to get involved with the capture as, say, baseball players.
Exhibit A: Chris Hala'ufia of London Welsh laid the smackdown on a streaking fan during a recent match against Leicester.
