How Come We're Still Watching?

Juan Aug 31, 2009

Almost everyday, there's an article that bashes the WWE. There's an article that talks about all the bad qualities of the WWE. It talks about how it was so much more better.

We all know it's true. The WWE is no longer what it used to be. Vince is no longer the creative genius. But, it's because we care that we criticize it.

But the question arises: How come we still watch it? How come every week we switch on our TVs to watch Monday Night Raw, or read articles and resultsย about it online? Why do we care anymore?

Is it because there was once a time when everything about it was so good, that once you watched it, you instantly became loyal fans? That even through the highs and lows, we will still be there as loyal as ever?

Or are we hoping every week, that things will pick up and next week it will all get better?

Maybe the WWE's not as bad as we make it out to be.

Maybe because there was once a time when the WWE was excellent all round, we just can't settle for something that's just good and not excellent.

It shouldn't be about what could've, should've or would've been. It's about what they give us now.

Why do we keep going for backstage info and let that influence our feelings towards the product?

Take what you are given, and not what's not yours.

Yes, Triple H is married to Stephanie McMahon, and because of that he has some influence backstage.

But, if we had not known that about him, would we have looked at him differently? Would we have enjoyed his title reigns and the storylines?

It's because of these unnecessary info, that we can't settle for what they give us now.

But, back to the original question: Why do we still care?

I think it's the hope of it getting better one day combined with the loyalty to the product.

Because of the WWE and other pro wrestling promotions, we get to come here and talk about it. We get lost in the wrestling world that we forget about our own problems and worries. We don't feel so lonely.

We have something to be happy about, if nothing else.

All this together creates a bond, a kind of magnetism between us and pro wrestling. Just like any other sport.

But for wrestling, the bond is almost unbreakable, especially if it was created during our childhood. And that's why we can't get away from it.

That's why we still care.
