Tebow, Legend Or Hero?
Every sport has its legends. For baseball its guys like Mantle, Ruth, Williams, and Gerhig, basketball has Jordan, Bird, Chamblin, and Dr. J, NFL has Walter Peyton, Unitas, Ditka, and Marrino, NHL has Gretzky, comic books have their heroes like Batman, Spiderman, and Superman, well you get the picture. But what lies ahead for returning senior quarter back Tim Tebow. Will he only be remembered or will his name continue to be heard in the years to come in the world of college football?
Tebow is a man of passion. He doesn’t know when to stop, he hardly ever slides on a scramble and isn’t afraid to take a hit, and he refuses to give in to adversity. That became apparent after the loss to Ole Miss early in the 2008 season.
We all know the infamous pledge that the junior quarterback made to the entire gator nation. Holding back tears SUPERMAN clearly stated with confidence that the country will not see any player play as hard as he will play, or any player push their team like he will, or any team play has hard as the gators will the rest of the season, and he kept that promise. Finishing out the season on an impressive performance in the rain on Bobby Bowden field against the Noles, Tebow lead his team to Atlanta with purpose. That purpose was to knock off no. 1 Alabama and get a shot at the national title. The gators did just that. Not only did they get a shot at the title, the gators proved to the college football world that they were the best team in the nation. But what will 2009 be.
The Florida gators have everything to lose this year. They are in position and have the talent to be the third team ever to go wire to wire and win it all. They are their own worst enemy. Can Tebow hold this team together for the '09 season and lead them to a repeat? This season will be the true test of Tebow's fate. If this guy, who threw for over 2,500 yards, with only four picks, rushed for over 600 yards and had 42 combined touch downs in the '08 season, can come out and keep his team focused and play with the passion and purpose he played with after the Sept. 27 loss to Ole Miss, Tebow and the Florida Gators will find themselves in the driver seat to Pasadena and taking home the Sears Trophy. This season will show the entire country what the Gator Nation already knows, that Tim Tebow is more than a man or a player, he is LEGEND.
