Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor: All He Needs Is a Bit of Love

Yoosof FarahAug 30, 2009

At the moment, it seems like Emmanuel Adebayor is well on his way to becoming value for money, having cost Manchester City £25million when he signed from Arsenal this summer.

The Togo international has scored three goals in as many league games for his new club, and has looked very promising indeed.

This season has been a complete change of fortune for Adebayor, after having been "abused" by the Arsenal fans last season for apparently using rumours of a £30 million move to AC Milan to get an improved contract (i.e. more money) at the Emirates Stadium.

Many fans that season also branded the striker as being lazy, and not fully committed to the Gunners' cause. He also only managed 16 goals in all competitions, not what most at Arsenal expected from their highest paid frontman.

However, here at the start of 2009/10 Premier League season, Adebayor looks a changed player (and a changed man) after moving up north.

Not only has he found his shooting boots, many pundits are now saying he has a renewed vigour for the game, as he works harder for the team, creating more chances for his new teammates than he did last season at Arsenal.

And a general little observation from Yoosof Farah, it appears Adebayor seems to be running around the pitch a bit more for his new team, helping out with the defence and then making an effort to support the attack when he is caught in a deep position.

So what has caused this transformation in the Togolese striker?

It seems to be the Manchester City fans, according to the striker himself. Well, the love they give him apparently, compared to the lack of it he received in his last days at Arsenal.

Speaking to SkySports he said: "I found my treatment [at Arsenal] in the last year unacceptable.

"[Manchester] City's fans were there to welcome me. That is the sort of love I want."

And it's all about the belief as well.

After the game against Portsmouth, Adebayor said: "[Manchester City] believed in my strength, they believed in my ability."

And for the striker it means, "at the moment I'm just working hard for the team and for the club," as well scoring three goals in three games.

So, what's the key to unlocking the goal machine that is Emmanuel Adebayor?

Well, according to the player it's belief, and that bit of love from the fans.

All in all for Manchester City, give Adebayor love, and he'll give you goals. Give him a lot of love, and maybe he'll push you into the top four, who knows?

Only time will tell, but Yoosof Farah certainly hopes Adebayor can do it, because he desperately wants those Fantasy Premier League points for his own league campaign.
