Cliff Lee: First Loss! Bats, Please?

Judy DavidsonAug 30, 2009

The honeymoon is over, Cliff Lee lost a game.   This was bound to happen but will have little effect on the NL (L)East. Lee is such a fantastic pitcher but was bound to have an off day Lee hadn't allowed a home run in 43 innings since being traded to Philadelphia. Unfortunately he gave up 3 last night.  Phillies...where were your bats?  We either are smokin' or cold this season.  Raouuuuul...where are you?

On behalf of Atlanta...I must say that when they visit they are extremely great to Philly fans and come out from their dug out to sign balls etc before the game.  Last year I had a friend in Iraq who wanted a signed MLB Phillies ball and not one Phillie came out to sign before the game.  I was sitting about the 5th row up from the away team dugout and went to the fence and once I told one of the Atlanta players who it was for, a few came over and signed the ball for me (and signed for a few kids hanging over the fence as well).   Not exactly the attitude we see from the Mets (do we really want a ball?).  So if it had to be that we were blown away by a team, just as well it was Atlanta.  They are nice guys..but we still want to win.

My man Chase Utley had his bat ready and knocked in the one run of the game.  We old lady Utley gawkers definitely need to form the Utley's Buttlies fan club.  He is such a mensch (Yiddish for a very good man ) on and off the field.  A great athlete that - other than dropping the F bomb a few times, which did not bother me one iota - has been a real asset to our community!

Chase has been great on my Home Run Derby team and I kept Pujols over Howard - a great move.  I did it more because of the pronunciation of Albert Pujol's last name...thanks to my daughter and son in law who spent an entire meal saying Poo Hole after they want to  Mets/Cardinals game...too funny!  I even graced the restroom at JJ Elephant with a huge portrait of Pujols over the Poo Hole!

Tonight at 8 it is Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, Joe Blanton, on the mound.  The big question is...will our bats show up?

Next week is Beefcake Football Draft - which can be done remotely.  We need women to play for a good cause (The MOM Squad www.momsquad.org).
