Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Decision: Judges' Scorecards, Fight Stats and Reaction

Rory MarsdenMay 3, 2015

Floyd Mayweather claimed a convincing victory in Las Vegas on Saturday night as he beat Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision in the 21st century's most hotly anticipated fight.

It was a master display from the 38-year-old American, Mayweather as elusive as ever as Pacquiao failed to land any telling combinations.

Mayweather himself was accurate and impressive as he landed punches consistently on his Filipino opponent.

In the end, all three judges scored the fight for Mayweather to hand him a well-deserved 48th career victory, and he remains undefeated, per Top Rank's Crystina Poncher:

The fight stats provide a surprising picture, with Mayweather credited with throwing more punches than the usually very busy Pacquiao, per BBC Sport:

Unsurprisingly, Mayweather was far more accurate with his punches and never truly looked troubled by Pacquiao at any time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

There may well be a reason for Pac-Man's surprisingly low punch count, with the post-fight revelation that the 36-year-old has been carrying a right shoulder injury for three to four weeks, per Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole.

Pacquiao was reportedly denied a request to take an anti-inflammatory shot in his dressing room before the fight by Nevada boxing commissioners.

Pac-Man barely troubled Mayweather throughout the fight. Boxing analyst Corey Erdman noted afterward that Pacquiao fared worse than some of Money's previous challengers, per Bleacher Report:

Pacquiao's lack of punches and his inability to truly compete with Mayweather was something of a disappointment.

Here are Mayweather's thoughts on his performance:

In the build-up to boxing's richest-ever fight, five years in the making, Pacquiao was touted as the man who could finally end Mayweather's winning streak.

Following a dominant display from Mayweather, former world champions Mike Tyson and Oscar De La Hoya expressed their disappointment that the fight had not lived up to its billing:

However, it was a performance that proved Mayweather's immense quality—as if it were needed—and confirmed him as the current era's greatest boxer.

He took on the only man to have matched him for quality in the last 15 years, and out-boxed, out-punched, out-manoeuvred and out-played him.

Mayweather is nearing the end of a phenomenal career, and he said after his Saturday victory that his "last fight is in September," per Sky Sports.

It is, as yet, unclear who that fight will be against, but after Saturday's performance, Mayweather will be confident of taking on any boxer in the world and winning again.
