A New Batch Of Champions Coming Soon To WWE

Charles EverhartAug 30, 2009

With all the suspensions, lack of fresh storylines, and obvious need for new superstars to sit at the top, it appears that many of the WWE belts are about to switch hands.

Let's start with what is not surprising.  Rey Mysterio, due to his recent suspension that begins this Wednesday, September 2nd, will be forced to drop the IC title to Dolph Ziggler at the Smackdown tapings this Tuesday.  Dolph Ziggler was probably going to win the IC title anyway, so the suspension just speeds up the process.  I think this is the right move.  A new superstar holding the IC title who has solid technical wrestling skills.  Who will Dolph Ziggler's first defense be against?  The return of the undertaker has probably (and unfortunately) squashed John Morrison's hopes at earning a WHC opportunity for a while, so I will guess that John Morrison is a good fit there.

The U.S. title looks to be changing hands as well.  The 2 candidates that have been announced are The Miz and Jack Swagger.  After the WWE allowed John Cena to destroy all of Miz's momentum (God forbid he actually gets a pin on Cena), I think Jack Swagger will be the next United States champion.  Personally, I like Jack Swagger and he is, in my mind, a future WWE champion.  Plus, he is "The All-American American" and could now also hold the American title.  That sounds like a good angle.  I expect to see this title change at WWE Breaking Point in 2 weeks.

Although I do not believe that Chris Jericho and Big Show will lose the Unified Tag Titles to MVP and Mark Henry, I do like what WWE is doing with the tag team circuit.  They are having more tag title matches at PPVs and they are trying to experiment with new tag teams.  I expect Jericho and Show to hold onto the unified tag titles for a couple more months at least.  I like the Hart Dynasty as the future unified tag team champions but I think they haven't been around quite long enough yet.

As far as the 2 women's titles go, I think they need to push new divas.  Melina vs. Michelle McCool is still the only women's title match and it looks like Beth Phoenix is being pushed to take the Diva's title from Mickie James.  That is not new and refreshing, but rather the same 4 divas dominating Raw and Smackdown.  Natalya could be a good women's champion on Smackdown and Gail Kim could be a good Diva's champion on Raw.

The World Heavyweight Title will probably soon go to the Undertaker.  I can't be sold on CM Punk making the undertaker submit at WWE Breaking Point.  This leaves the undertaker's next opponent to be...CM Punk...with Chris Jericho and Big Show already holding titles and Dolph Ziggler about to win the IC title, all of the other good heels on Smackdown will have their own titles to defend.  I suppose he could wrestle another babyface character like John Morrison, but I can't be sold on John Morrison actually defeating the undertaker.  Uh oh...Smackdown could soon have the problem Raw has with its main event scene.

Speaking of Raw, we have John Cena vs. Randy Orton in an "I Quit" match for the WWE title.  Do you really think Cena is going to utter the words, "I quit"?  I am expecting John Cena to win the WWE title and then beat down on the Miz to celebrate and simultaneously bury Miz's wrestling career even further.  Raw isn't setup for anyone other than Randy Orton, Triple H, or Shawn Michaels to face Cena right now so don't expect anything interesting to happen on Raw for a while unless you are looking at the midcard circuit.  Of course, more hit or miss guest hosts are sure to follow.
