Bryce Petty to Jets: Trade Details, Twitter Reaction in 2015 NFL Draft
It took a bit longer than most experts predicted, but Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty finally came off the board in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft Saturday when the New York Jets selected him with the 103rd overall pick.
The Jets' Twitter account made the choice official after the team orchestrated a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars:
Per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets and Jags swapped fourth-round picks, and Jacksonville also received the Houston Texans' seventh-rounder that New York had acquired earlier in the draft:
According to Mike Clay of Pro Football Focus, Petty joins an already-crowded quarterback depth chart in New York:
As Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick likely battle it out for the starting job in 2015, Mehta believes the former Baylor signal-caller can sit and learn before ascending to the No. 1 spot:
Many considered Petty to be the No. 3 quarterback in this draft behind Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, so it comes as little surprise that the Jets' selection garnered plenty of praise.
ESPN's Mike Greenberg, who is a noted Jets fan, was thrilled with the pick:
Also, ESPN's Skip Bayless feels as though New York landing Petty in the fourth round was a major coup:
Petty was hugely productive in college and performed well during the predraft process, but there will be an adjustment period coming out of Baylor's spread offense.
If he can get acclimated to the pro game, though, Petty may have the tools needed to become an NFL starter.
