Maia Gets Smashed...Couture Looking Old???

The Truth TurcottAug 30, 2009

Hey Sports Fans just some thoughts on an early Sunday morning...What happened last night at U.F.C. 102? All the stories and hype on Damien Maia surely he must be on his way to a title shot. Oh wait minute, his glass jaw got in the way.

Hey don't get me wrong folks, Maia is a great athlete and bjj expert but this is MMA, this is fighting and you need a little more than bjj to get by these days, I like how everybody just assumed Maia was going to win this fight with ease...kudos to Nate "The Great" Marquardt for knocking out the overhyped Maia. Does anyone think Maia is going to finish Silva with an arm bar or triangle choke now????

Is it just me or is Randy Couture looking his age out there? He got dropped twice last night, looking a little flat footed was Randy. Give Nogueria credit he took it to Couture and beat him to the punch, for those fans who don't like fights that go to decision this one should change your mind.

Well Ed Herman  may be getting your walking papers after losing by tko...I like Ed he's cocky and is always ready to fight but that's not always good enough for the U.F.C. but hey I hear Strikeforce is always looking to build up on their stable of fighters.

Look out Machida Silva is back and coming for you. After taking just 95 seconds to dismantle the "Dean Of Mean" Jardine last night Silva is making his way back up the ladder after losing to Machida in January. If he can get by Evans or Jackson depending on who wins that one he may just get a second chance at the "Dragon"...if Machida still holds the belt.

Chris Leban lost another one, a spirited bout against Jake Roshalt, managing to slide a possible tap out by Yves Lavigne before being stopped in the third round...I don't know Sports Fans but with the steroids and a few losses this could be the end for Chris "The Punching Bag" Leban in the U.F.C.

Brandon "The Truth" Vera won a unanimous decision over Canadian Krzysztof Soszynski another great fight that went to decision. Vera just seemed to beat the Canadian to the punch last night.

So with U.F.C. 102 behind us we find the Middleweight division looking pretty much the same as it did going in...no one on the horizon threatening current kingpin Anderson Silva, Nate looks great and has improved, but Silva also looks great and has improved I don't see a re-match between these two ending much differently than the first...and Maia wouldn't stand a chance.

I think Anderson should spend some time in the Light Heavyweight division fighting the likes of Rashad, Tito Ortiz (this one would be great), Thiago Silva, and obviously a shot at Machida by then maybe a legitimate contender will rise up in the Middleweight division...Just some thoughts Sports Fans on a cloudy Sunday morning...
