Jim Kelly's Emotional Standing Ovation Sparks Twitter Reaction in 2015 NFL Draft
Many players have seen their lifelong dreams come true at the 2015 NFL draft, but one of the best moments from the first two days came from Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly on Friday. The former Buffalo Bills star received a standing ovation from the Chicago crowd as he announced the Bills' selection of Florida State cornerback Ronald Darby.
The NFL on ESPN and NFL Network Twitter feeds provided reaction from the crowd:
Kelly, who has spent much of the last two years battling cancer, stated he was still cancer-free after announcing the selection, per Bob Glauber of Newsday. The five-time Pro Bowler has been cancer-free since September 2014 and also beat an MRSA infection. He was among the many team representatives on hand for second-round selections.
Bleacher Report's Twitter account captured him offering a thumbs-up to the crowd Friday night:
While there were many special moments and surprise appearances, Kelly's stood out. Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News and a host of other media members commented on the moment:
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was among the many current NFL players to comment as well:
While no one knows whether Darby will wind up being the next foundational star in Buffalo, it's clear no one will forget the moment he was drafted.
