Byron Jones to Cowboys: Twitter Reacts as CB Is Selected in 2015 NFL Draft

Joseph ZuckerApr 30, 2015

With Morris Claiborne's future in doubt and the secondary a somewhat notable issue in 2014, the Dallas Cowboys opted for a cornerback in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. They selected Connecticut Huskies corner Byron Jones with the 27th overall pick.

Both the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill and ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon feel Jones offers great security for the Cowboys defense:

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora doesn't think Jones is an absolute home run, but the former Husky could seamlessly change positions if things don't work out at corner:

ESPN's Skip Bayless also questions where Jones will be best utilized in the secondary:

Bill Jones of CBS 11 in Dallas/Fort Worth believes Jones at least won't cause any off-field headaches for the organization:

Although the Cowboys pass defense wasn't completely moribund last year, it allowed 251.9 yards a game (26th), while Football Outsiders ranked the unit 22nd. ESPN Stats & Info picked out another damning stat:

If Dallas truly wants to be a Super Bowl contender in 2015, it can't have the same kind of numbers next year. David Moore of The Dallas Morning News also reported that the team likely won't pick up Claiborne's option, meaning it will need a replacement in the near future.

Jones could be that guy while also helping to strengthen one of the Cowboys' bigger weaknesses.
