Lillard Reportedly Seeking Five-Year Max Contract
Thursday, April 30
Lillard is coming off a pair of All-Star campaigns, and he promises to be a key part of Portland's success moving forward. If the Blazers are going to secure him over the long term, though, he won't come at a discount.
According to Shams Charania of RealGM.com, the 24-year-old guard is seeking a five-year maximum designated player contract extension when talks likely begin this offseason.
The Blazers' season came to a disappointing end as they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Memphis Grizzlies, but Lillard seems to be content with his situation in Portland, per the team's official Twitter account:
Lillard averaged 21 points, over six assists and nearly five rebounds per game as one of the NBA's best all-around guards.
While the Blazers need to make improvements in other areas in order to reach the Western Conference's upper echelon, they won't be able to do it without Lillard. Securing him will take an absolutely huge investment, but his production through three NBA seasons suggests that he will be worth it.
