Tony Barrett of The Times confirmed a major setback on Thursday for the 22-year-old defender:
Flanagan hasn't made a single appearance for Brendan Rodgers' side this season, per WhoScored.com. He is yet to recover from the injury suffered on Liverpool's tour of the USA during the summer, and he went under the knife of doctor Andy Williams for a second time, as reported by Andy Kelly of The Liverpool Echo.
Rodgers spoke of Flanagan's character, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo:
Reds supporters will have been enjoying the development of Flanagan prior to his problems. He made 23 Premier League appearances throughout 2013-14, a year in which Liverpool were just two points from winning the title.

He is a hard-working full-back, someone who possesses the energy to bomb down the flank across 90 minutes. Flanagan's technical ability was rapidly improving with his extended game time, and he was becoming a more ambitious player as the weeks passed.
Rodgers will hope the Englishman can recover quickly and return to a consistent starting position in the first team before too long.
