Irvin Tweets NSFW Comment After 2016 Option Isn't Exercised
Monday, May 4
Irvin hasn't held back his thoughts on Twitter in the past and once again tweeted comments when announcing his contract option wasn't picked up by the Seahawks (Warning: Tweet contains NSFW language):
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on April 29 the Seahawks wouldn't pick up Irvin's fifth-year option (via ProFootballTalk's Mike Wilkening).
Irvin is entering the final guaranteed year of his rookie contract. Although he's been a solid starter for the Seahawks, the 27-year-old standout hasn't quite lived up to his first-round billing.
Gregg Bell of The News Tribune weighed in on Irvin's future:
Unlike many of the other Seahawks who were passed over in the draft, Irvin has been expected to produce at a higher level than he has. Perhaps a trade and a change of scenery are what he needs to gain a chip on his shoulder, play with an edge and fully realize his undeniable potential.
Seattle has a lot of contract situations to address—most notably Irvin's draft classmates, All-Pro middle linebacker Bobby Wagner and star quarterback Russell Wilson. They have been more prominent contributors to the Seahawks' past three appearances in the playoffs, which included a Super Bowl XLVIII triumph.
Irvin figures to be the odd man out as it is, but landing in another situation where he can make an impact may be best for the next phase of his career.

"Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff nixed the draft-day report by ProFootballTalk.com that the team was working a trade to land Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin on Friday.
“He’s under contract,” Dimitroff said on 92.9 The Game this morning. “I didn’t give it a second thought.”
"
On April 29 ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reported that Seattle may try trade Irvin to the Atlanta Falcons .
"Per a league source, chatter already has emerged regarding a possible trade that would send linebacker Bruce Irvin to the Falcons, reuniting him with coach Dan Quinn, the former defensive coordinator in Seattle," Florio wrote.
D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Irvin wants to be a Falcon as well. Irvin took to Twitter to add, "It's a business."
