Bennett Plans to Attend Training Camp; Discusses Negotiations, Trade Request
Tuesday, June 16
Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported Bennett took part in drills at the Bears' minicamp on Tuesday. The tight end told reporters that he plans to attend training camp, according to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun Times.
“I’m always working on a new contract," Bennett said when asked about his contract negotiations, according to Jahns. “Every person in the whole world should be trying to get a new contract," he continued.
When asked about requesting a trade, Bennett said "I don’t know. My agent, that’s between them and upstairs,” according to Adam Hoge of WGN.
The tight end had missed all three of the team's optional workouts so far this offseason.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on April 29 that the Bears were listening to offers for Bennett as he seeks a new contract from any team willing to pay it.
Bennett has spent the past two seasons with the Bears after four years with the Dallas Cowboys and one with the New York Giants. The 28-year-old has 155 receptions for 1,675 yards and 11 touchdowns in 32 games with Chicago. He's set to make $4.9 million in 2015, per Spotrac.com.
