Jenson Button - When Will The Luck Run Out?
After another disastrous qualifying for Jenson Button, you can't help but wonder when his title hopes are going to come crashing down around him.
After 4 races off the podium and still an 18 point lead, how long can he keep scoring low points before he is caught up by another driver? It seems like such a long time ago he was winning almost every race he entered, and an amazing 7-podium streak made it seem as though he had already won the world championship.
With his numerous excuses running out, such as tyre warming troubles and the weather, it's hard to work out what his real problem is. Is it pressure and nerves? Or is is that he isn't the superstar that everyone thought he was, and with the car no longer being far ahead of all others he just isn't far enough?
Whatever it is, and whether you are a fan or not, you can't deny that at this rate he definitely isn't showing himself to be World Championship material. He can't cope with the slightest oversteer/understeer, and as soon as he detects it he's on the radio moaning. That isn't the trait of a world champion. Yet he is still, somehow, leading the World Championship. With only 11 points in 4 races you'd expect another driver right behind him in the Drivers standings, but somehow he still has an 18 point lead.
There is only so long that luck will last though. And when he is being closed in upon in the standings by other drivers the problem will only worsen. So when will the big race come? When will Jenson realise that he doesn't want to complete a World Championship through luck, and glide to the end? When will he decide to step up his game and end on a high? And will that day come soon enough?
So, in conclusion to my frank and opinionated article, there is only one thing that is for certain. although at the beginning the World Championship seemed to be already over, and looked to be nothing compared to the excitement last year, it may just turn out that it's only just begun...
