D.J. Swearinger Released by Houston Texans

It was just two years ago that the Houston Texans spent a second-round pick on safety D.J. Swearinger, but the organization has already decided to move on from the 23-year-old defensive back.

Texans Release Swearinger

Mark Berman of Fox 26 reported that the Texans have parted ways with Swearinger.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on April 28 that Houston was shopping Swearinger around the league.

The former South Carolina star has three career interceptions in two seasons, and he is coming off a 2014 campaign in which he started 12 games and registered 74 tackles.         

While Swearinger has had his issues in coverage at times, he is still a young player with plenty of potential. Because of that, he shouldn't have a difficult time finding a new team. 

The Texans will likely turn to either Eddie Pleasant or Josh Aubrey to fill Swearinger's shoes at strong safety. Their ability to play well in coverage, along with stopping the run, will go a long way in determining where Houston's defense will stand next season.
