The build-up to this fight has been unprecedented. The calibre of the two men involved was enough to promote this glitzy occasion in itself, but the extraordinary clamour for tickets, the magnificent venue and the immersion in the minutiae of the rivalry between these two iconic competitors has expedited this event’s status from a boxing match to an historic occasion.

SportsCenter took a succinct look back at why this bout has taken so long to be arranged and why it has finally come to fruition:

The majority of the pressure coming into this one is on Mayweather. As the undefeated champion, the immaculate American has the most to lose when he strides out to the ring in Vegas and, while his record does speak for itself, he’s rarely faced anyone who marries intricacy and intensity quite like his Filipino opponent.

LAS VEGAS, NV - APRIL 14: WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (L) works out with his uncle Roger Mayweather at the Mayweather Boxing Club on April 14, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather Jr. will face WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacq

It seems as though Money is in fine spirits coming into this one. He gave us a behind-the-scenes look at some of his preparations for the bout on his official Twitter account:

Pacquiao did something similar, posting this video on his feed in which he showcases staggeringly fast hands:

It’s a fight that has caught the imagination of millions of people across the world. While both men are arguably a little past their primes, they each have defined a generation with their engrossing but equally bespoke fighting styles.

Those traits in themselves will make this fight unmissable, but there are some underpinning fears as to whether the occasion can live up to the unrelenting build-up.

Jason Strout and Jenaro Diaz spoke with Bleacher Report about the blueprints for both fighters in this historic bout:

The focus building up to this fight has been unrelenting.

As we can see here, Sky Sports are leaving absolutely no stone uncovered in their preparations for Saturday’s scrap:

Naturally, everyone is having a say on who he thinks will triumph in this fight, but Larry King pondered an outcome that very few have mentioned:

With long odds for a draw, people who fancy that outcome will certainly be getting their money’s worth from their stakes. But there’s an irrepressible sense that when these two men get into the ring, there’s going to be a defining result, one way or another.

Both men are fast approaching the twilights of their respective careers and while each will be revered as an iconic exponent of the sweet science for generations regardless of Saturday’s result, the winner will cement his status alongside boxing’s immortals. History is there to be seized for Floyd and Manny, and the watching world can’t wait to see who grasps it.
