Sidney Crosby Named to Canada Roster for 2015 IIHF World Championships
Canada already had a stacked roster for the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in May. Now, they've added the biggest star of all to the mix as Sidney Crosby has been named to the team.
Hockey Canada announced the news on Twitter:
As Chris Johnston of Sportsnet noted, Crosby made the most of his time at the tournament the last time he appeared there:
Dominate he did. Though Canada finished fourth that year, Crosby led the tournament with eight goals and 16 points in nine games. He was just 18 and was coming off his rookie season in the NHL, but Crosby quickly established himself as the biggest Canadian star that year on a roster chock full of superstars.
There will be no doubting he'll be the biggest star on Team Canada this time around.
The Canadians are loaded, however. Crosby will join players like Taylor Hall, Claude Giroux, Tyler Ennis and Tyler Seguin, among others, on a squad that will be considered one of the favorites, if not the favorite. Crosby will be expected to dominate in the same way he did in 2006 and this time earn the medal that eluded him at that tournament.
