
Hamburg Marathon 2015 Results: Men and Women's Top Finishers
Kenya's Lucas Rotich prevailed in the men's race at the 2015 Hamburg Marathon on Sunday, winning in a personal-best time of two hours, seven minutes and 11 seconds.
Meseret Hailu of Ethiopia came through to win the women's race in a time of two hours, 25 minutes and 41 seconds, ahead of marathon debutant Sylvia Kibet of Kenya in second.
Haspa Marathon Hamburg confirmed the victor of the men's race and his time, Rotich having looked the likely winner as the closing miles ticked away:
It was a Kenyan-dominated top 10 with Stephen Chebogut coming third, while Eritrea's Ghirmay Ghebreslassie finished in second.
Four Four Two Media relayed the standings and times for the top finishers:
Hailu, winner of the 2012 Amsterdam Marathon, came through ahead of an impressive Kibet, beating the Kenyan into second by 35 seconds, while Namibia's Beata Naigambo was a fine third.
Athletics Africa confirmed the result:
Sabrina Mockenhaupt was the highest-placed home runner, the German finishing in sixth position, seven minutes down on the winner.
The 2015 Hamburg Marathon is a very popular race and more than 20,000 people were expected to participate in it. Mizuno Running tweeted out some terrific shots of the action:
Hamburg's Television Tower is a prominent feature of the race, and a pleasant sight for all the participants as it marks the end of the 26.2 miles.
Overall it was an impressive showing from the Kenyan contingent in the men's race, topped off by Rotich's deserved victory, while it was an Ethiopian win in the women's contest.
