Floyd Mayweather Must Knock Out Manny Pacquiao in Superfight to Silence Critics

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 29, 2015

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to compete in one of the biggest showdowns in boxing history, and if Mayweather wants to cement his legacy as one of the best of all time, he has to knock Pacquiao out.

Nobody is going to deny the raw skill of the undefeated Mayweather. He has won multiple championships, competed in the Olympics and gained numerous accolades throughout his storied career.

Few have achieved what he has in his life, but this bout simply cannot end with a split-decision victory. If it does, critics will always question the outcome.

That is the unfortunate truth behind the situation. When two boxers go the distance, there is almost always debate over the decision, especially when both fighters are as popular as these two men.

Pacquiao has gone on record saying he thinks Mayweather is afraid of him, and he is not the only one who feels that way.

The fact that the fight has almost happened a few times but never come to fruition until now is part of the reason so many people feel that way.

Mayweather probably isn't afraid of Pacquiao, but he might be afraid of losing in general. It's the one thing every fighter fears because when nobody wins decisively, the decision is up to the judges.

Putting fear aside, a lot of people just don't like Mayweather, and therefore choose to say he is scared just because they want to say something negative about him.

He's a polarizing character who has had public indiscretions and has a big mouth. It's very easy to dislike someone who talks about how good they are, and it's even easier to dislike someone who continues to prove their critics wrong.

In his 47 professional fights, Mayweather has put down some of the best boxers in the world, but the one person he has never defeated is the man who many think can end his streak.

Pacquiao is one of the most decorated and successful boxers in the business, but unlike his opponent, he has suffered both losses and draws in his pro career.

Another loss won't tarnish his record the way it will Mayweather's. If Pacquiao loses, critics will just chalk it up to luck on Mayweather's part, but if he wins, everyone will jump on Mayweather and say they were right all along.

You don't have to like him to admit that he is one of the most talented fighters to ever set foot into the ring, but admitting he is talented has never stopped anyone from criticizing him.

When these two megastars step into the ring on May 2, Floyd Mayweather needs to get a decisive victory to prove all the naysayers wrong.
