Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper: Winner and Reaction from WWE Extreme Rules 2015

Mike ChiariApr 26, 2015

After weeks of abuse at the hands of Luke Harper, Dean Ambrose managed to get some payback Sunday night at Extreme Rules as he prevailed in a Chicago Street Fight.

The WWE Universe account provided a look at how Ambrose won the match:

After some strong action between both wrestlers, Harper escaped Ambrose and his kendo stick to enter into a car and leave the arena, although Ambrose jumped into the car's window before the vehicle took off. WWE captured the car speeding off:

After two other matches, the duo returned to crash the party during a New Day interview, as WrestleZone.net noted:

They picked up where they left off with Ambrose initiating the action. WWE provided the visual evidence:

Once they got back to the ring there were plenty of chairs at their disposal, and Ambrose tossed Harper into a pile of them before hitting him with the Dirty Deeds for the pin and the victory.

WrestlingINC.com noted how long it had been since Ambrose won a PPV match, and Wrestling Memes had some fun with Ambrose:

Ambrose and Harper are two of the most psychotic Superstars WWE has to offer, and they have been at each other's throats ever since WrestleMania. The bad blood between them stems from the former Wyatt Family member's powerbombing the one-time Shield representative through a ladder during the Intercontinental Championship match on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

WWE's Lunatic Fringe didn't forget about that incident, as he has sought revenge ever since. Harper continued to get the better of Ambrose on a number of occasions leading up Extreme Rules, including an instance in which he put the Unstable Superstar through the announce table:

Few have shown an ability to absorb as much punishment as Ambrose, so it came as no surprise that he continued to battle back against Harper until a match was officially announced.

There is little doubt that Ambrose and Harper are two of the best all-around performers in WWE. The former throws caution to the wind in the ring and is among the best in the business on the mic. The latter is among the most imposing figures in wrestling, yet he moves with the grace of a much smaller competitor.

By all rights, both Ambrose and Harper should be near the top of the card and in the hunt for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately, they have been mishandled since the dissolution of their respective stables.

Rather than being a part of in-depth angles that showcase their unique skill sets, Ambrose and Harper have been treated like nondescript midcarders.

They were barely given any mic time prior to their match at Extreme Rules, and there was very little storyline development regarding their rivalry. Despite that, they still managed to engage in a highly entertaining brawl that was enhanced by the hardcore stipulation.

In the grand scheme of things, though, it will likely be looked back upon as a throwaway match that didn't have a huge impact on either Superstar.

An important time on the WWE calendar is quickly approaching, however, with Money in the Bank set to take place in June followed by SummerSlam a bit further down the road in August.

Perhaps this victory will give Ambrose some momentum and make him a main player in the coming months, but it is tough to have a ton of confidence in his booking since he was upended last year after becoming one of the company's most popular stars.

Ambrose has what it takes to be a top guy, though, and it would behoove WWE to put him in that position moving forward.
