We Have Race, Politics and All About Vick In Philly
For all of you who have not read this - mighty interesting:
Tom Jensen of Public Policy Polling:
"I was curious how this issue would break down along party lines. Democrats tend to be more into second chances but they also tend to be more into animal rights. It turns out there is a pretty big schism on that front, with Democrats supporting reinstatement by a margin of 56-26 while Republicans oppose it 45-39. Who knew Vick was such a partisan issue? Independents support letting him play 52-31.
There is an even stronger divide along racial lines with African Americans supporting reinstatement 80-9, but whites by only a 42-39 margin.
That made me wonder if the party divide was simply a reflection of the racial divide with almost all blacks being Democrats. White Democrats support letting Vick play 42/35, while white Republicans oppose him 38/45. So there is a partisan divide beyond the racial divide, but it is not quite as stark.
In addition to the race and party stuff there is also a large gender gap on the Vick issue. Men are in favor of letting him play by a 61-27 spread while women are actually opposed 40-38.
This is just too cool - as a member of all of the groups opposed to Vick I just love poll like this takes place...almost makes me giddy to see where I fall (and this was accurate) but ...I have never been polled? Have any of you?
The Eagles won last night...I went to sleep. Seems as though they did use the Wildcat and managed to win by one point but that was a predictable kick of 36 yards by Akers. The team, second hand here, did not look particularly sharp. It is only pre season but Vick may not be the Great Black Hope - unless Donovan goes down (predict game 6 or 7) and Vick leads us to Miami in February.
Vick was greated by cheers - heard the replays on my way to make the bagels and good bad or indifferent, Philly fans love their teams. Most are quite forgiving and just happy to be able to find and afford the ticket to a game. But, this still needed to be the community organizer's night and they hogged it...Saul Alinsky style...was ACORN there too? About half an hour before kickoff last night, J. Whyatt Mondesire, the head of the local NAACP, stood outside Lincoln Financial Field and waited for TV, print and radio - all the MSM to garner a little (lot) of attention. They showed up with the Black Clergy of Philadelphia, again I slept. What was the point? Fortunately there were no rabbis - think my People while sports fans also love animals are are taught to respect them...we kill our food humanely too.
Having not watched the game, all I can say is we won, the fans seem to be forgiving...and HOW ABOUT THOSE PHILLIES?
