Francona Is The Red Sox Weakest Link

Todd BrobergAug 27, 2009

Enough is enough!  Terry Francona is one of the worst managers in the league.  You've read the articles.  You've seen the ineptitude.  If the Boston front office wants to win anything ever again, they need to fire Francona and sign someone who knows the game.  In the heat of a pennant / wild card race he has done nothing to give his team the best chance to win.

He has consistently left starting pitching in the game far too long.  He has relied on rookie pitching to try to carry the team.  He has done nothing effective to help with the obvious down turn in offense this year.  He has no concept of "small ball."  He just pulls out his "Baseball Management for Dummies" book and turns to the section he needs.  You can bet whatever "decision" he makes, it will be the least effective.  He and his coaching staff have done nothing that can be described as clear or concise.

Leaving Beckett in to give up five home runs was foolish.  Leaving Tazawa in to give up nine runs in four innings was ridiculous, but then he out did himself.  With a bullpen full of rested relievers, Francona brought in Nick Green to pitch.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Red Sox in the running for at least a playoff spot?!?!?   It seems to me that Terry Francona is doing everything that he can to hand the wild card over to Texas or Tampa Bay

Don't let the numbers fool you. The Red Sox under Terry Francona are merely a second place team.  If the wild card rule was not in affect, the Red Sox would have made the play offs once in Francona's five years.

Surely someone in the front office in Boston has to be watching.  Theo please do something to get a true baseball manager here in Boston.  Someone who really knows the game.  Someone who will do everything they can to give this team a chance to win.  A manager that commands the respect of the veteran players and has something more than bubble gum to offer to the younger players.  Until that happens, the Red Sox will continue to be compared to lawn furniture.
