Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Kenny Bayless Named Referee, Judges Revealed

Adam WellsApr 21, 2015

With just over one week to go before Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao lock horns on May 2, the Nevada Athletic Commission has named the judges and referee for boxing's megafight.

Per Jason Floyd of The MMA Report, Kenny Bayless will be the referee, with Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and Glenn Feldman scoring the bout. All involved will be compensated nicely:

According to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael, the 64-year-old Bayless is "regarded by many as boxing's best referee and worked numerous big fights, including the two biggest-selling pay-per-view fights in history, both of which were Mayweather bouts—against Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez."

Rafael's report also notes Bayless has worked a total of 12 fights involving Mayweather (five) and Pacquiao (seven).

In a separate report, Rafael wrote the Nevada Athletic Commission unanimously approved all three "vastly experienced championship judges."

Bayless seems to have the respect and admiration of many inside the sport, so his appointment is the right selection for a fight of this magnitude. The judges will always be under the microscope, because their job is to determine the outcome if this bout goes the distance.

Since Mayweather and Pacquiao aren't prone to ending fights early—only Mayweather has scored a knockout in the last four years, against Victor Ortiz—the judges figure to play a big role in the outcome of this bout.
