EPL Rumour Mill: Frank Lampard to Inter Milan?

Jon NaylorMay 20, 2008

An appallingly late edition of the EPL rumour mill, but for that you can blame Loughborough University for their frankly woeful choice of dissertation deadlines.

Firstly, let me open with a little gloating. As written on Bleacher Report almost a month ago, Phillip Degen has signed on the dotted line for Liverpool. Remember guys, you heard it here first.

Full backs are the order of the day at Anfield, with Italian left-back Andreas Dossena on the way in to replace outward-bound John Arne Riise. With Gareth Barry's saga appearing to come to a conclusion as well, Liverpool's "buy early" policy could just be coming to fruition sooner than we think.

The next hot rumour to emanate from the English Premier League this week is that Chelsea's goalscoring midfielder Frank Lampard has been involved in a bit of mutual loving with Italian giants Inter Milan. Both parties are refusing to deny the speculation surrounding the move, with Inter commenting, "we'll wait until after the Champions League final."

Expect at least a bid, and with the potential for Lampard to buy out his contract, we might be seeing an Englishman playing abroad next year.

On the other side of London, Roma's Alberto Aquilani has joined the list of names on the tongues of Arsenal fans hoping to see their club buy big this summer. Should he sign, he might be joined by Marseille's young French central midfielder Samir Nasri, who is a Wenger signing if there ever was one.

The great Barcelona Summer Sale has begun - and it seems that 'everything must go'. Names linked with Nou Camp exits include Eto'o to Spurs, Deco to Newcastle or Chelsea, Henry to Villa and Ronaldinho to just about anywhere. A new look Barca side could mean an export of a glut of talented players, none of whom would be short of English takers.

Fresh from their FA Cup success, Portsmouth look set to dabble in one of their favourite transfer poolsโ€”London misfits. Younes Kaboul is the latest name to be linked with the south coast outfit, along with Carlisle's hugely talented 'keeper Kieran Westwood. If Harry gets his man, we could see a Kaboul-shaped renaissance in the mould of Campbell and Kanu.

The traditional bombshell to round things off. England goalscoring wizard Michael Owen has been linked with an unbelievable move to J-League side JEF United Chiba.

If that one comes off I'll eat my Anfield fuzzy slippers.
