IPL 2015 Schedule: Live Stream, TV Info, Time Table and Updated Cricket Fixtures

It’s remarkable how quickly circumstances can change in the space of 12 months. In the 2014 Indian Premier League, Kings XI Punjab were one of the most vibrant teams in the competition, scything their way to the top of the standings with a daring brand of aggressive cricket.

But in this year’s tournament, the Punjab outfit have struggled for rhythm and next up for George Bailey’s toiling troops is the team that have taken over Kings XI’s mantle as the great entertainers: Rajasthan Royals. Shane Watson’s men have won all five of their matches to this point and look like the team to beat in the 2015 IPL.

Royals Chasing Six of the Best

The recent game against Chennai Super Kings was supposed to be the litmus test for Rajasthan. Yes, they’d won four games in a row, but arguably against the four weakest teams in the tournament. The challenge was whether they could replicate a performance of comparable conviction against the star-studded, pre-tournament favourites.

An eight-wicket win speaks for itself. The Royals were absolutely superb in every facet of their play and while they may not have been considered major contenders for glory prior to the IPL getting underway, at this early stage they’re a team that looks very difficult to halt.

As noted by cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, Rajasthan made a major statement with the style of the victory:

There’s an enamouring aggression and ingenuity about the manner in which the Royals play too. Despite the destructive batsmen at the top of the Super Kings’ batting order, Watson opted for spin bowling to unsettle Brendon McCullum and it worked superbly. Then, with the bat, the captain and Ajinkya Rahane set the tone with a fine first-wicket partnership.

Rahane has been superb for the Royals.

Their opening stand abated any nerves surrounding the chase and, as we can see here courtesy of ESPN Cricinfo, it was an unprecedented contribution for Rajasthan in IPL matches:

Getting a win for Kings XI looks like an ominous challenge. Aside from their skipper Bailey, the big players have yet to fire for the 2014 runners-up, having lost three of their four matches so far. They were also well beaten by the Royals earlier in the competition, by a 26-run margin.

Bailey has struggled to get a tune out of his team.

It’s vital this team finds some consistency. Typically their performances oscillate between turgid and tremendous, leaving Kings XI often reliant on virtuoso individual displays. As noted by Freddie Wilde of ESPN Cricinfo, the foundations this team are built upon are far from steady despite their superb 2014 season:

At the moment, it’s difficult to see Rajasthan falling short in any match. Every section of their team is functioning superbly and the return of Watson to complement players like Steve Smith and James Faulkner represents a massive boost to their hopes.

Given the quality in this Kings XI team it’d be naive to completely write them off, but at the moment they seem to be striving for a balance in the group which isn’t quite there. Royals are the antithesis of that, and barring some individual heroics from a Punjab player, they’ll make it six in succession in this engrossing competition.
