NFL Draft 2015: Start Time, TV Schedule and Selection Order for All 7 Rounds
No event on the football calendar should be cause for more universal optimism than the NFL draft. Even the worst teams from last year have a reason to feel good since they should hypothetically have grabbed the best players available.
With the 2015 edition mere days away, anticipation is beginning to reach critical mass. All the months of hype and intrigue are about to pay off.
Unlike in some past years, there doesn't seem to be much drama regarding what will happen with the No. 1 overall pick. Most experts believe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will select Florida State's Jameis Winston. The team is in desperate need of a quarterback, and Winston is the best on the board.
However, Newsday's Bob Glauber reported on April 18 that the Bucs were listening to offers for their first-round pick. Bleacher Report's Cian Fahey felt that the news went beyond mere draft subterfuge as well:
"Only reason for that leak would be if you weren't certain on who you were taking. May be some actual cracks in Winston to TB.
— Cian Fahey (@Cianaf) April 19, 2015"
Should the Buccaneers keep the pick, it will do nothing to quell the rumors regarding the Tennessee Titans and the No. 2 selection.
B/R's Jason Cole reported on April 13 that Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt's perfect plan would be trading the pick and acquiring Philip Rivers to be his starting quarterback in 2015:
Tennessee tight end Delanie Walker offered his two cents as well, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio:
With this year's draft looking a bit top-heavy, there seems to be genuine value in trading up into the first four or five picks.
Once you get beyond that, the quality of talent begins steadily declining, especially at quarterback. Beyond Winston and Oregon's Marcus Mariota, the position gets extremely thin. UCLA's Brett Hundley might be the third-best QB, and he has a laundry list of on-field issues that could hinder his potential.
As a result, there could be some serious movement on draft day, adding some excitement to the occasion.
Another storyline to follow is where Georgia's Todd Gurley will land. He's either the best or second-best running back in the draft, depending on whom you ask. Although he tore his ACL last November, Gurley's knee is apparently not a serious issue, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:
At the NFL combine, the former Bulldog spoke about his frustration with being physically unable to compete at many of the draft's showcases, per the USA Today's Lindsay H. Jones:
"You want to be out there with the guys. You're happy for the guys who are out there competing, but at the end of the day, you want to see yourself competing with those guys because that's what the combine is all about—just going out there, doing the workouts and showing the coaches what you can do.
"
This is a running back who possesses the perfect combination of size, strength, speed and agility. An NFL scout compared Gurley favorably to Adrian Peterson, per Rapoport:
Getting a potential Adrian Peterson in the middle of the first round seems like a massive bargain and an exception to the rule that you should wait to select a running back.
Of course, these are only two among a multitude of stories heading into the 2015 draft. Between Thursday and Sunday, NFL fans will be glued to their televisions.
Here's a look at where you can find the draft on TV and the full seven-round order.
