WWE Extreme Rules 2015: Booking Better Stipulations for Each Match on the Card

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 18, 2015

Extreme Rules is a night that is usually filled with mayhem and violence, but it feels as if this year's event could have been booked a lot better.

Some of the stipulations for the matches just don't feel right, and one of them is downright stupid. This is supposed to be the pay-per-view that gets people excited, but the current card doesn't have a lot to be hyped about.

The one match that may not happen is Daniel Bryan versus Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship. Bryan might not be healthy enough to compete at the event, reported by Wrestling Inc, so his status is in limbo. For that reason, we will skip over that bout in this slideshow.

As far as the other five matches go, there are a lot of things that could be improved. This slideshow will look at each bout and examine which stipulations would be better based on the people fighting, the storyline possibilities and simple logic.

This is not a ranked list, so the matches will not be in any particular order.

Rusev vs. John Cena (Russian Chain Match)

1 of 5

For the purposes of the storyline, a Russian Chain match fits Rusev and John Cena perfectly. The use of a metal chain will likely lead to several bruises and cuts, but therein lies the problem.

In the PG era, WWE wouldn't intentionally put Superstars in a bout that will cause them to bleed, which is why most of the violence in this match will probably be subdued.

What these two behemoths need is a stipulation that plays to their strengths, as well as gives everyone a sense of closure. This is their third PPV match in a row, and it will probably be their last for the foreseeable future.

What they need is a Last Man Standing match. Big Show and Roman Reigns should have been given a different stipulation because that one fits Rusev and Cena so much better.

Both men have made each other pass out from their submission holds, which makes it seem possible that either man could keep the other down for the full count of 10.

A Russian Chain match might be interesting, but it's basically a Strap match, and those produce more hit-or-miss matches than any other stipulation.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus (Kiss My Arse Match)

2 of 5

Extreme Rules is supposed to be a night when Superstars compete in hardcore-style matches. So can someone please explain why Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler are competing in a match that stipulates the loser has to kiss the victor's backside?

The loser is always humiliated in these situations, and frankly, it's just a stupid stipulation. Nobody wants to see Ziggler or Sheamus kiss the other man's butt.

The bout these two should have been given is a straight up Hardcore match. Ziggler and Sheamus are two of the more physical wrestlers in the company, and there is no doubt they would give the fans more than their money's worth.

These two using every kind of weapon imaginable would only lead to great things. They would probably be pretty beat up after it was all over, but they would almost certainly steal the show.

One other thing that has to be mentioned is that the winner will likely have to pull their trunks down so the loser can pucker up. Since when is mild nudity considered PG?

Roman Reigns vs. Big Show (Last Man Standing Match)

3 of 5

A Last Man Standing match is always pretty brutal, and it will definitely allow both Big Show and Roman Reigns to play to their strengths, but there's a better option available.

What these two need is an I Quit match. As we have seen in the past, there are a lot of ways to keep somebody down for a count of 10 without knocking them out. To make Superstars such as Reigns or Big Show say "I quit" would be much harder.

If we are being realistic, Roman Reigns will almost certainly win. Having him force a giant to give up would be a much bigger accolade than a victory in a Last Man Standing match.

This would also force Reigns out of his comfort zone. He is not the kind of wrestler who uses submission holds very often, so he would have to come up with a creative way to force Big Show to mutter the only two words that can end the match.

Nikki Bella vs. Paige

4 of 5

WWE ran an injury angle with Paige that could lead to her losing her title shot, which leaves the door open for several possibilities.

If WWE really wants to give the Divas division a chance, the best way is to put the Divas Championship on the line with some kind of stipulation.

Instead of having just one challenger, this should be turned into a Fatal 4-Way match. Additionally, the title should be hanging above the ring, where it can only be reached by climbing a ladder.

WWE has never had a Divas Ladder match before, which would make it a major attraction. Not only would fans be interested to see how they would perform, but it would give the Divas a shot at proving they can do just as much as the men.

Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins (RKO Banned/Steel Cage Match)

5 of 5

Seth Rollins and Randy Orton can outperform just about anybody in any situation, but the stipulations for their upcoming match at Extreme Rules could definitely be better.

Banning the RKO is the perfect heel decision by Rollins, but a Cage match is not the best thing for them. What they need is a Hell in a Cell match.

Yes, there is a whole PPV named after that type of match, but that doesn't mean WWE can't have another one on a different card.

A normal steel cage has no roof, which means the Authority can still find a way inside to help Rollins. The cell gives the impression that nobody could possibly interfere.

Another big reason this stipulation would make more sense is that it just feels like a bigger deal than a Cage match. Rollins needs to have his first title defense feel important, and few match variants could accomplish that better than a HIAC match.

Many stipulations exist that would fit right in with the theme of the Extreme Rules PPV. WWE just chose to use the wrong ones this year.

What kind of matches would you rather see on April 26?
