Madden 15: Walter Payton's Community Legend Card Hits Ultimate Team

Brian MaziqueApr 17, 2015

One of the greatest running backs in NFL history is being honored by EA Sports in the form of a new community legend card in Madden 15's Ultimate Team mode. Anyone who logs into MUT from April 15-21 will automatically receive the new Payton card.

Here's a look at the card art for the new "Sweetness" MUT card.

Card art is a big deal with MUT. If you're wondering who designed the card, a graphic artist and major MUT fan named Sean Holden is the man responsible. He won a community contest and did the deceased Chicago legend and Hall of Famer justice.

Per a quote provided to Bleacher Report by EA Sports, Holden said he wanted Walter to: "appear to be bursting through pillars of orange light on a weathered dark-blue canvas.”

That's pretty poetic stuff.

As you can see, Payton's rating is a sparkling 92 overall. Known for his stiff arm, quick feet and immense lower-body strength, Payton set the all-time record for most rushing yards in a career until Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith surpassed him in 2002. Payton is fourth all time in rushing touchdowns with 110 and sixth all time in rushing yards per game.

We see Payton in a Bears uniform for the sake of card presentation, but anyone who is familiar with MUT knows Payton may never rock the navy blue and burnt orange in your game.

MUT has become the most popular mode in the iconic football video game series. For those who are unaware of how it works, MUT blends the collection of trading cards with fantasy sports concepts. Gamers construct their "ultimate teams" by collecting player, uniform, stadium and attribute cards.

The same mode has risen in popularity in EA Sports' other sports video game series, NHL, NBA Live and FIFA. Look out for more legends to be announced for this and future versions of the Madden series.
