Melquise Stovall to USC: Trojans Land 4-Star RB Prospect
Getting a jump on the 2016 recruiting class, USC landed one of the top running backs when Melquise Stovall gave the Trojans his commitment.
Stovall made the announcement on Twitter Friday:
"I want to thank every program that has offered me, its been a blessing. I have decided to commit to USC. Fight On! ✌ pic.twitter.com/nwOyQtH34m
— Melquise Stovall (@Melstovall11) April 17, 2015"
The news isn't a surprise, as Stovall is from Lancaster, California, and he has been pursued by the two big Southern California schools (USC and UCLA). The Trojans always seemed to have a leg up and got their man.
Stovall is a good man, as well. According to 247Sports' rankings, he's the No. 2 all-purpose running back and is the 180th-ranked player overall.
As far as what Stovall can do on the field, even though he has a lot to prove in college, this move posted by D1Bound.com shows the Trojans have a great foundation piece to work with:
The Trojans are already off to a great recruiting start for next year, with 247Sports listing five other 4-star commitments. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has this program headed in the right direction after a 9-4 record in his first year and another strong recruiting class coming in 2016 to keep building around.
Oregon has been the class of the Pac-12 with Marcus Mariota at quarterback, but with him going to the NFL, things are open up once again for the Trojans to reclaim the throne.
