Manchester United Transfer News: Kevin De Bruyne Fee Named, Mats Hummels Rumours

Nick AkermanApr 17, 2015

Wolfsburg playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is worth "higher" than €30 million (£21 million), according Patrick De Koster, his agent, who has confessed the player will likely leave this summer.

David Wright of the Express reports Manchester United's interest in the player, while also citing quotes from De Koster's recent interview with Europa Calcio: "This could be his last season at Wolfsburg," said the player's representative. "Currently the only club we have talked to regarding his future is the German side. His value is higher than €30 million, but you can't take anything for granted in football."

De Koster also suggested Serie A champions Juventus are sniffing around De Bruyne: "There are several interesting teams in Italy, such as Juventus who are a fantastic club."

The former Chelsea midfielder has shot to prominence since leaving Stamford Bridge and should be considered among European football's top performers this season. He has netted 14 goals and provided 22 assists in 39 appearances across the Bundesliga and Europa League, per WhoScored.com.

Squawka highlighted Wolfsburg's willingness to play through the Belgian:

At 23 years old, De Bruyne has worked hard to get over the setback of not making it at Chelsea. He is confident on the ball and the type of player who never stops reading the game around him.

Similar to Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool, De Bruyne is excellent at finding space in which to operate. He needs runners to sprint beyond his position, something United could provide with the likes of Angel Di Maria and Wayne Rooney. De Koster's comments indicate he will be one of the most sought-after players in Europe this summer.

The same could be said of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels, a player who "wants to join Manchester United—not Arsenal," according to Jack Wilson of the Daily Star. This, perhaps, obvious storyline follows the news that manager Jurgen Klopp will leave Dortmund at the end of the season, a departure which could see key players follow.

It's worth noting there is no indication from Hummels himself in Wilson's article. Klopp recently suggested Hummels is considering an Old Trafford switch, though, as reported by David Amoyal of Gianluca Di Marzio's website:

Bundesliga specialist Raphael Honigstein recently discussed whether Hummels and team-mate Marco Reus will leave BVB now Klopp's future is resolved, per ESPN FC:

B/R UK's Sam Tighe looked at other possibilities for United:

Hummels is said to be an "admirer" of Van Gaal, a man his father came to know during a spell working with Bayern Munich, per Jamie Jackson of The Guardian. Perhaps the United boss can call on this relationship to eventually make the purchase. The centre-back should be considered a natural leader, but he'll need speed alongside him to prove a success if he moves to England.

Both De Bruyne and Hummels would be excellent signings for the club. Their arrivals would simultaneously signal United want to win silverware quickly and are planning for the long-term future.

Van Gaal's men are four points clear of fourth-placed Manchester City heading into Saturday's fixture with Chelsea, a match which could all but confirm United's place in next season's Champions League. If victory is achieved, we can expect the rumours of high-profile transfers to intensify further still.
