Pelicans Say They're Ready to 'Get This Scrimmage' Against Golden State Warriors

Dan CarsonApr 16, 2015

The Golden State Warriors will probably beat the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, but they’ve done an exceedingly good job at making the task as difficult for themselves as possible.

Allegations emerged last week before the teams met in New Orleans about the Warriors calling the game “a scrimmage”—a comment that really ticked off Anthony Davis and company.

The Pelicans went on to beat Golden State 103-100, and now, with New Orleans grabbing the No. 8 seed in the West, they’ll face the Warriors at Oracle Arena on Saturday for a playoff showdown.

New Orleans hasn’t forgotten about Golden State’s comments, which the Warriors claim was just a joke, and after clinching a playoff spot Wednesday night with a win over the San Antonio Spurs, players said they were excited for another scrimmage.

CBS Sports’ Ananth Pandian spotted video of the Pelicans celebrating their playoff berth in the locker room. After an emotional speech by coach Monty Williams, a voice shouted, “Let’s go ahead and get this scrimmage!”

Quincy Pondexter added to the sentiment: “Shirts and skins scrimmage.”

Get excited for some fun, five-on-five pickup, guys.

The series should be a good calorie-burner for the Warriors, who might even let New Orleans run full court if they’re feeling magnanimous. Lord knows the Pelicans would love the opportunity.
