WWE SmackDown: Spoiler-Free Preview for April 16

Ryan DilbertApr 16, 2015

London welcomes WWE once again on the April 16 edition of SmackDown.

The O2 Arena in England's capital city hosted Monday's Raw and now opens its doors for Superstars in search of victories before Extreme Rules. Bad News Barrett and Neville look for wins in their home country. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd look to stop both the United States and intercontinental champs.

Fans wait for the pay-per-view card to fill out.

Will Cesaro and Kidd find challengers? Will Paige keep her title match? Will The Miz, Fandango and Sheamus be added to Extreme Rules?

Thursday's SmackDown could answer all of those questions. The one certainty about that show is that the London fans will bring barrels of passion, just as they did on Monday night.

The taped action won't air until Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on SyFy. To those fans who have spent the week avoiding spoilers: The following results-free look is for you.

The Miz vs. Bad News Barrett

Normally, one would spot a heel-versus-heel match like this and wonder what kind of reaction the crowd will have. With Barrett having the home-field advantage here, that's not a question. Just like on Monday night, Barrett will be treated like a babyface here.

He's looking to gain momentum before his Intercontinental Championship match against Bryan at Extreme Rules.

Should he dominate, he'll head into that clash with added confidence. Should he falter, The Miz's already bloated ego will get even bigger.

The Miz's feud with Damien Mizdow could play a factor here. He may distract The Miz or look to help Barrett win.

Bray Wyatt vs. R-Truth

The predator gets another appetizer. Wyatt has had no issue with dispatching men of R-Truth's caliber. It's when he faces the company's top-flight stars that he begins to falter.

He has been threatening an as-yet-unnamed new enemy. Perhaps we'll get a clue who he's after by what Wyatt barks at the crowd before or after this battle.

If R-Truth pulls off the stunner, however, count on The Eater of Worlds to focus his attention on him for the next few weeks.

Sheamus vs. Neville

Neville, the newcomer from NXT, continues to battle with some of the top stars. He was unable to knock off Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler on the last two editions of Raw.

Is it time for him to pull off an upset and not just look good in defeat? It's going to be tough to earn the victory. WWE has portrayed Sheamus as more dangerous and more formidable than before.

The fact that Ziggler may be lurking, looking to pay The Celtic Warrior back for attacking him on Monday night, ups Neville's chances.

Win or lose, though, The Man Who Gravity Forgot is assured a big reaction in his home country.

Los Matadores vs. The New Day

There remains a void at the top of the tag team division. Jey Uso's shoulder injury leaves Cesaro and Kidd without proper rivals.

Both Los Matadores and The New Day have been struggling to create a connection with the crowd. Both teams have shown a more aggressive side of late, teasing heel turns.

The most intriguing storyline about this match will be which team plays more as heels. With the tag champs being villains, it's the hottest babyface team that stands the best chance at a title shot at Extreme Rules.

Fans haven't been kind to Kofi Kingston and Company lately. They have made a habit of singing "New Day sucks!" to them. Expect even harsher treatment from the Londoners.

Natalya vs. Cameron vs. Alicia Fox

Paige may be the No. 1 contender officially, but her title shot at Extreme Rules is no sure thing. Naomi blasted her after the Battle Royal on Monday's Raw.

WWE then announced that "Paige's doctors have advised her not to compete until further notice."

That storyline injury presumably opens the door for Naomi, but perhaps WWE plans to crowd the Divas title picture. Whoever wins this Triple Threat will certainly move closer to contention.

Cameron is the weak link in terms of ring skills here. She's miles behind both Natalya and Fox as an overall wrestler. The assumption going into this battle is that her opponents will do the bulk of the work.

Fox hasn't been featured much lately. A win here would be big for her, signaling a move toward the spotlight again.

Fandango vs. Adam Rose

WWE's failed experiments collide, as they have done several times before. This time, however, things stand to be a touch different.

Fandango appeared to turn babyface on Monday's Raw when he ditched Rosa Mendes, demanded to have his old entrance music back and danced with the London crowd.

Fandango celebrates his split with Rosa Mendes.

Can the ballroom dancer's apparent shift in alignment bring him out of the bottom of the midcard? Can he finally sustain some momentum?

Those questions will be in the audience's mind as he takes on his old foe.

Rose has been a non-factor on WWE programming of late. He is just as desperate to get fans invested. On paper, this doesn't look like the kind of match that will accomplish that for either man.

Daniel Bryan and John Cena vs. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd

A superteam forms against the tag champs. It's rare that the two top babyfaces in the company pair up, and it's just as uncommon to see the United States and intercontinental titleholders on the same squad.

Cena has been stockpiling wins thanks to his U.S. title open challenge. Bryan has been less busy; concerns about his health have popped up again.

According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc), Bryan isn't doing well from a health standpoint. His injuries from last year continue to linger.

That news will have fans paying special attention to this action. How will Bryan look in the ring? Will he spend much of the night on the apron, as the company looks to protect him?

Bryan's reportedly not being 100 percent takes some of the electricity out of this matchup. The bout is plenty tempting, though, even with a banged-up Bryan. There is set to be a lot of talent in the ring at the same time.

And the London fans are sure to elevate that contest and the night as a whole.
