Tiger Woods Injury Update: Agent Says Golfer's Wrist Is 'Fine' After Masters

Timothy RappApr 15, 2015

Tiger Woods appeared to have injured himself during the final round of the Masters on Sunday, but his agent, Mark Steinberg, is denying that the injury is a long-term concern.

Bob Harig of ESPN.com shared the information from Steinberg on Wednesday:

"

Asked if there were any X-rays or doctor visits required, Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, told ESPN.com in an email that "the wrist is fine." Whether that means Woods, who finished tied for 17th at the Masters, can begin practicing again soon is unclear. He said he would not play again competitively "for a while."

That leaves Woods' participation in The Players Championship on May 7 in question, and considering he isn't eligible to play in the WGC-Cadillac Match Play, he could be facing another hiatus from tournaments.

As Harig noted, Woods appeared to injure himself on the ninth hole during play Sunday, when he hit a tree root with his club. After the final round, he told reporters, "It hurts; it definitely hurts," before following up with some particularly painful details.

"I didn't know there was a tree root there. I drilled the club straight into it," he said. "It didn't move, but my body kept moving. There's a little joint that popped out, and I was able to somehow put it back in, which didn't feel very good."

Woods came into Sunday having played surprisingly well after a long injury absence and was paired with Rory McIlroy for the final round. Both entered the day at six under for the tournament, but Woods shot a disappointing 73 and finished in 17th place.

Still, it was a good showing for Woods, and one that showed he could revitalize his career, as Jay Busbee of Yahoo Sports said Wednesday morning on Sirius XM's Bleacher Report Radio:

Of course, Woods has to be healthy enough to play first, and while his agent maintains his wrist is fine, many folks will be monitoring the golfer's health closely over the coming weeks. It would certainly be disappointing for Woods and his many fans if he followed up a strong showing at the Masters with another spell off of the course due to injury.
