Hey Tampa Bay Buccaneers...You Need to Call Derrick Brooks!

Tom EdringtonAug 26, 2009

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to swallow their pride and call Derrick Brooks! You can't tell me there's anyone on this roster who's better than Derrick Brooks..."

WDAE radio talk show host Steve Duemig

Steve Duemig has a great point. "The Big Dog" called out the Buccaneers Wednesday afternoon on his show and his was 100% right on the money.

He said that Tanard Jackson has really hurt the Buccaneer defense, and he's right.

He said that there's no how, no way that Geno Hayes and Adam Hayward, who now occupy the weakside linebacker position, are better than Derrick Brooks.

He's absolutely right about that.

Duemig pointed out both players were on the team last year and had their chances to beat out Derrick Brooks and they didn't.

He's right again.

"Bring me into the office and show me the coaches film and prove to me that a healthy Derrick Brooks is not better than what they have," Duemig challenged.

He said that probably wouldn't happen and he's right.

What he did on Wednesday was echo the thoughts of most of the folks who follow this Tampa Bay Buccaneer team.

Brooks wants to play again, he has visited New Orleans and Oakland but wasn't signed, most likely due to contract demands. He might, just might, come back to the Bucs for a lot less money than they imagine.

Even Buccaneer head coach Raheem Morris is lamenting the fact that he must now move Jermaine Phillips out of the weakside linebacker role and back into the safety position after the suspension of Jackson for the first four games.

Brooks was released to make room for the Phillips experiment at the "will" linebacker position.

Since that is done, why not bring Brooks back?

Obviously, it makes way too much sense.

But someone would have to swallow some pride.
