Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. Seven
Enough programming notes. On to the meat.
Pitcher
Jason Bergmann—Washington’s Bergman made his first appearance since Apr. 12, last Thursday. He had been touched up for 16 runs in his first 12-1/3 innings, so nobody could have predicted a 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 9 K performance. Talk about a shocker.
Catcher
Rod Barajas—Toronto’s Barajas went 6 for 13 (.462) with 3 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI, and 1 BB. His monster two HR, five RBI Saturday night fueled his solid numbers, but he did get a hit in each game last week. In fact, he’s working on an eight-game hitting streak.
Corner Infielder
Doug Mientkiewicz—Pittburgh’s Mientkiewicz is swinging a hot bat to add to his great glove. Last week he went 6 for 20 (.300) with 6 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, and 4 BB. Plus, he qualifies for both corner infield positions.
Middle Infielder
Jerry Hairston, Jr.—With Keppinger going down for Cincy, Jerry is getting more playing time at SS (along with Paul Janish). He’s also played in the outfield. He is very flexible in Yahoo Leagues, qualifying at 2B, 3B, SS, and OF. Last week he was 7 for 16 (.438) with 5 R, 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, and 2 SB.
Outfielder
David Murphy—Texas’ David Murphy went 11 for 25 (.440) with 4 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, and 6 RBI. He had a hit in all but one game, and has a mini five-game hitting streak.
