Head coach Jill Ellis talked about the group of players selected, per Fox Sports 1 on Twitter:
There are more than a few mainstays on this unit, most notably Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Abby Wambach, Megan Rapinoe, Christie Rampone and Carli Lloyd, among others. Solo will aim to solidify the keeper position in front of a defensive unit that is probably the United States' biggest question mark.
The team is certainly solid through the midfield and in the attacking force, however, where it has an abundance of world-class talent.
Here's a look at the prospective starting 11:
| GK | Hope Solo |
| D | Becky Sauerbrunn |
| D | Ali Krieger |
| D | Christie Rampone |
| D | Meghan Klingenberg |
| M | Carli Lloyd |
| M | Megan Rapinoe |
| M | Heather O'Reilly |
| M | Lauren Holiday |
| F | Alex Morgan |
| F | Sydney Leroux |
The USWNT will be one of the favorites heading into the tournament, and given the talent it has up and down the roster, it will be a major disappointment if it doesn't win the World Cup.
They have the perfect blend of experience, young athleticism and talent and will be hungry to win soccer's ultimate prize after failing to do so four years ago.
