Rob BlanchetteApr 13, 2015

The 21-year-old claimed the green jacket after leading the tournament from the conclusion of the first day's play right through to the final putt.

The champion posted a final-day round of 70 to finish at 18 under par for the tournament, per Masters.com.

The elite world of golf chased Spieth hard, with Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose both finishing at 14 under par to tie for second place.

Here are the final leaderboard positions:

Spieth shattered records throughout his historic four days at Augusta, proving he is ready to be his country's main threat against the dominance of European golf.

Sky Sports News and the PGA Tour highlighted just a few of the player's achievements as he swept to one of the sport's biggest prizes:

The Texan started the final day in full control of the leaderboard, safe in the knowledge he had his destiny in his own hands. Only a shocking collapse could have facilitated a loss for the bright talent.

Spieth began his round on Masters Sunday with birdies at the first and third—two holes he had failed to break par on the previous three rounds.

He landed his approach within 18 feet on the third and impressively sank his putt to keep Rose at bay.

Rare bogeys on the the fifth and seventh holes temporarily hurt Spieth's charge, but he fixed that with a beautiful birdie on the eighth. Spieth showed no fear or nerves as he attacked the green and comfortably sank his putt after a great approach.

A further bogey was to follow on 12, but despite the setback, Spieth always looked in control of his emotions. Birdies on 13 and 15 rescued a potential poor end to his day and kept the eventual winner two under for Sunday's action.

Operating in such a high-class field, Spieth's dominant display over all four days at the Masters was extremely impressive, as he shot a score that would have won the competition in the vast majority of previous years.

Rory McIlroy now has a true contender in his long-term fight to remain world No. 1, and we have seen only a fraction of what Spieth can do.

The youngster hit shots beyond his years at the Masters, and his consistency will ensure he remains at the top of the leaderboard in many of the major competitions to follow.

McIlroy will be nervously looking over his shoulder as the American fast becomes golf's hottest property.
