Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said the marriage between the team and Jagr really came down to how excited the former All-Star was about the young talent on the roster:
Jagr echoed those sentiments to George Richards of the Miami Herald on Saturday, less than a day before the deal was announced:
Despite being 43 years old, Jagr remains a productive offensive player. In 20 games since being acquired by the Panthers, he's recorded 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) and a plus-minus rating of seven.
The Panthers have been a pleasant surprise this season, boasting a 38-29-15 record with 91 points, their most since 2011-12. They were eliminated from playoff contention with less than two weeks to go in the season, which is a step in the right direction for this franchise.
Jagr provides a veteran presence who can help the young talent develop while still providing enough offense to be worth a one-year investment.
