Overview

After being blown away by Chennai Super Kings in their opening fixture on the weekend, Sunrisers Hyderabad have a chance to redeem themselves against one of the tournament favourites on Monday. Royal Challengers Bangalore won their opening fixture thanks largely to a brilliant knock from Chris Gayle and a late burst from AB de Villiers.

The length of the IPL means there is room to slip up, but finding consistency goes a long way to securing a place in the playoffs. The matchup between Hyderabad and Bangalore should be an intriguing prospect.

With Bangalore's Mitchell Starc still out injured, Sunrisers hold the aces in the bowling department with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Trent Boult leading the attack. Boult was superb during the recently-concluded World Cup and while Indian conditions are far tougher to bowl in than New Zealand's swinging pitches, his skill will go a long way in restricting the run rate.

But Bangalore do have a pretty intimidating batting lineup, though, with Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers all able to single-handedly take a game away from the opposition. The Sunrisers have David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan, so the match has potential for great entertainment.

Statistically, the two sides are fairly evenly matched. The Sunrisers rebranded back in 2013 from the Deccan Chargers and since then, the two teams have played just four matches against each other. Hyderabad have won twice (once in a Super Over) and Bangalore have won twice. On paper, then, there is very little separating the two teams.

Key players:

Hyderabad

David Warner is the key batsman for Hyderabad and with Bangalore’s slightly dubious attack, the stage is set for him to go big. Having got his eye in during the first fixture, Warner will be a key part in setting up a solid score for the Sunrisers.

Bangalore

Chris Gayle has an immense IPL record and after starting off with a bang, fans will be expecting more of the same. The Hyderabad bowlers will offer some resistance up front, but if Gayle can stick it out, the middle overs will be perfectly set up for him to go big.
